Julia Roberts Says Return to Red Carpet Is Scary

Julia Roberts knows how to work a red carpet – but even an Oscar-winner can get rusty.

Roberts, who stars with Clive Owen in Duplicity, was taken aback by the size and enthusiasm of the crowd gathered for the film’s London premiere on Tuesday.

Asked how it felt to be on the red carpet after being a mostly stay-at-home mom for awhile, she said, “Just terrifying, awful. It’s scary out there – but it’s nice.”

She even admits feeling nervous about her fashion choices. “I’ve put on three different outfits to come here tonight, three!”

Roberts, who last year starred in Charlie Wilson’s War, says being back in the spotlight isn’t what she craves. “I don’t have the bug to work, I have the bug to make good movies and those don’t come along very often,” she said.

For Roberts Duplicity was tempting enough to bring her back to the big screen – but it took a bit of coaxing from her costar Clive Owen. “I [took] her out for lunch and told her that I’d read a script that was dynamite and it would be great for the two of us to do it,” said Owen at the premiere. “She was actually pregnant, so I had to wait another year before she finally read it and said yes.”

As for how Roberts handles balancing her career and her family life with husband Danny Moder, 3-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and 1-year-old son, Henry, “[It's] surprisingly easy,” she said. “Good kids, good support, great husband.”

Carrie Underwood Says Fame Makes Dating Harder

Although former American Idol sensation Carrie Underwood has become one of the country music’s biggest stars, fame has its downside – especially when it comes to dating, she says.

“You never really know why somebody wants to be around you, or if they do genuinely like you,” Underwood, 25, tells Allure magazine in the September issue. “I wish everyone had a label on their forehead so you could automatically tell their intentions. Sometimes you just wish that no one wanted anything from you.”

The star, who earlier this year was inducted into Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry, recalls a time soon after her success on Idol when a guy who’d ignored her in college – clearly enamored by her newfound success – called saying that “he wanted to explain.”

Fame hasn’t helped create lasting relationships for her either. Earlier this year, Underwood split from Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford via text-messages. “We didn’t have a fight. No one cheated,” she clarifies. “It plain didn’t work.”

As for Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo, who now is dating Jessica Simpson, Underwood says she still hears from him sometimes – but doesn’t always pick up the phone. “We were both small town people doing very big things, and we relied on each other, dealing with fame,” says the singer who claims the relationship wasn’t serious. And now? “I don’t know. The phone will ring and it’ll be him, and I’ll maybe not answer.”

Some of her reservations about opening up to people seem to stem from an old flame who cheater on her. “I don’t want to name names, even though he probably deserves it, but he fooled around,” she tells the magazine. “Oh, yeah, and lied! It was one of those things that everyone knew but me. He was a good liar. Nobody would come out and tell me. And he seemed perfect in every way.”

Added the singer: “I’m sure we’ve all run into these people, whether they’re friends, boyfriends or girlfriends.”

Lawyer Says A-Rod and Madonna Had ‘An Affair of the Heart’

Alex Rodriguez’s relationship with Madonna was “an affair of the heart” – not “sexual infidelity” – according to Cynthia Rodriguez’s lawyer.

Still, the baseball star’s relationship with the singer “was the last straw” before the Yankee slugger’s wife filed for divorce Monday, her Houston attorney, Earle Lilly, said.

Lilly says that A-Rod was smitten with Madonna, but makes no claim of any sexual liaison. “The correct analysis is a relationship,” he says. “Some people categorize an affair as something as sexual infidelity. We’re not claming that. It’s an affair of the heart.”

Over the weekend, Madonna issued a statement denying a romantic relationship with the baseball star, saying, “I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage.”

In fact, “Madonna’s name is not even mentioned in the papers,” says Lilly. “We don’t want the public to think this is an aggressive action against Madonna.”

Still, Lilly maintains that A-Rod has behaved badly for “a good while” and his client, Cynthia Rodriguez, has had enough. “She’s just a Greek Orthodox lady who has had as much as she can take,” he says.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Monday, Cynthia’s Miami attorney Maurice Kutner filed the divorce petition.

“This is an action for dissolution of marriage, which is being filed only after [Cynthia Rodriguez] has exhausted every effort to salvage the marriage of the parties,” the document reads. “However, Alex has emotionally abandoned his wife and children and has left her with no choice but to divorce him.”

Without naming any names, the document states, “The marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken because of the husband’s extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct.”

The couple were married Nov. 2, 2002 in Dallas. They have two daughters, Natasha, 3, and Ella, 2 months.

Both Lilly and Kutner maintain that their client hopes to settle the divorce as amicably as possible.

“Cynthia has made it very clear to me that she wants to take the high road and protect her children and herself,” Kutner said shortly after filing the papers. “She wants to resolve the issues between Alex and herself in an amicable fashion.”

Carmen Electra Says Their is So Much Pressure for Wedding

Is Carmen Electra getting cold feet about walking down the aisle with guitarist Rob Patterson?

Well, not exactly, though the actress-model complains about the constant barrage of questions about their impending plans.

“It’s funny, everyone else puts so much pressure, [asking], ‘When are you getting married?’ ” Electra said at the Dodge Celebrity Challenger event at California’s Willow Springs Raceway. “If it was up to everybody else, we’d be married and divorced already.”

The couple, who became engaged in Las Vegas during her 36th birthday weekend, have been busy traveling from Dubai to New Orleans and then to Boston to meet Patterson’s parents.

For the record, the prospective bride and groom are completely content with their leisurely trip to the altar. Says Electra, “We’re taking it slow, and we’re happy.”

Dina Lohan Says Lindsay Went to ER for Asthma

Lindsay Lohan went to the hospital on Thursday night because she was having an asthma attack, her mom said.

“She was losing oxygen. She couldn’t breathe,” Dina Lohan says about her 21-year-old daughter, whose emergency room trip with deejay Samantha Ronson was photographed. On Friday, the star’s rep claimed that she went to the hospital to visit a friend.

“She was afraid to go the hospital because [the paparazzi] were gonna write about it. She was sick,” the elder Lohan adds at an event for Project Cuddle. “If you were sick, and you’re mother couldn’t even take you to a hospital because paparazzi will fabricate some story, you know, it’s sad. It’s really sad.”

But Dina says Lindsay’s lucky to have Ronson by her side, telling PEOPLE, “Samantha is an angel.”

Will Smith Says Divorce Is Not An Option

Ellen DeGeneres clearly has marriage on her mind.

The talk show host – who plans to wed girlfriend Portia de Rossi and has talked nuptials with recent guests John McCain and Jenna (Bush) Hager – was back to bride-talk with Will Smith.

On Monday’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, DeGeneres noted that Will and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, have been married for 10 years, unheard of in Hollywood. “It’s like dog years when you’re married here,” she said. “That’s like 50 years, right?

“What I found is divorce just can’t be an option,” the actor explained. “It’s really that simple. And I think that’s the problem with L.A. – there are so many options. So a huge part of the success for [Jada] and I is that we just removed the other options.”

The secret to their success? “We’re like listen, we’re going to be together one way or the other so we might as well try to be happy,” he said.

DeGeneres also suggested that Smith consider politics for his next project – and join Barack Obama as his running mate.

“I do think about [running for office] sometimes,” Smith admitted. “Right up until that Monday after the movie opens and I have a 100-percent approval rating. No politician is ever going to have that!”

Joel Madden Says Baby Harlow Likes The Cure

Nursery rhymes are fine, but baby Harlow “likes The Cure,” proud papa – and weekend DJ – Joel Madden says.

Madden, whose daughter with Nicole Richie, Harlow Winter Kate Madden, was born in January, jetted to the Hamptons for Memorial Day Weekend to spin records at La Playa in Southampton, but he’s not sticking around.

“The Hamptons are definitely a good place to hang out for the whole summer,” he said. “But I’m a dad now. I’d be staying if I didn’t have the girls at home. That’s why I’m going home.”

See pictures of Harlow with mom and dad.

The crowd at La Playa “went nuts for Justin Timberlake, and for [Black Kids]’ ‘I’m Not Going to Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance,’ Madonna, and Prince,” he said.

But for Harlow, Madden has a different playlist that includes “a lot of Disney stuff and classical. She likes Good Charlotte. And she likes her granddad [Lionel Richie]’s music. She likes old stuff. She’s a Cure fan … She likes The Cure.”

According to Madden, Harlow already moves to the music. “Oh, yeah,” he said. She kicks her legs.”

It’s no wonder Madden says one of his favorite things to do with Harlow is “listen to music and change diapers.”

Cameron Diaz Says Sex Is the Best!

Nearly 18 months after her break-up with Justin Timberlake after they were together four years, Cameron Diaz is loving her view of the dating scene.

“Men are the best!” the What Happens in Vegas star, 35, tells InStyle for its June issue. “Sex is the best!”

And when it comes to seducing her men, Diaz says she prefers an outfit that accentuates her natural resources: a pair of heels and nothing else.

“You don’t walk around naked?” she asks innocently.

Despite the April death of her father Emilio (the interview apparently took place before the sad event), Diaz – who once professed to thinking she’d be married and a mom by the time she was 22 – terms this a “good year,” adding, “Yeah, I’m happy.”

As for the prospective Mr. Right, “You don’t want the men who want the 25-year-olds,” she says with a laugh. “People think if you’re single, you are incomplete. No. The thing is, I don’t want to be in a relationship that makes me incomplete.”

Robert “Mutt” Lange says that his split from Shania Twain is “unfortunate.”

“It’s just an unfortunate thing that’s happened,” Lange said shortly after the couple’s separation was announced Thursday. “It’s literally just a growing apart, that’s all.”

A source close to Twain also says that the singer didn’t expect the split. “She’s devastated,” another source says. “She’s getting through it with a very close-knit group of family and friends.”

Twain, 42, and Lange, 59, married after a six-month courtship in 1993. They have a 6-year-old son, Eja D’Angelo.
